Bromoco coatings have a been in use for over 15 years with proven real-life durability with hundreds of applications worldwide including iconic buildings and landmarks such as the McLaren formula one headquarters in Woking completed in 2009 and Canary Wharf London in 2011. The original application at McLaren was internal and then in 2010 the entire building was coated. Upon completion a 4-year guarantee was issued with advice to re-coat in year five, however the building has outlasted its original guarantee 3 times as the coating is still working today providing high levels of protection.
In 2013 founder and technical director Mr Anthony Semple along with leading biochemists were able to add silver ion antimicrobials to the formula. This was an amazing achievement bearing in mind the coating is crystal clear and only 5 to 8 microns thick. The resulting TOUCH Antimicrobial coating was successfully tested early in 2014. The testing was to confirm that the already proven silver ion technology within the already proven coating was performing successfully within the coating.
Although we did not confirm the anti-viral qualities at that time, we were confident that the technology had previously been tested and proven to be effective against the H1N1 Influenza and Feline Corona viruses would perform equally as well within our coating.
Silver Ion stability
The silver ion technology within our TOUCH Antimicrobial version of our coatings like most silver ions is not UV stable. Our coatings contain UV blockers so the silver ion technology will remain effective for the lifetime of the product. Because the silver ions are encapsulated within our coatings they are guaranteed to not leach out and contaminate water. Silver ions are considered a biocide and must not enter and contaminate the water table.
Testing and future proofing
We have become under increasing pressure due to the current pandemic to provide test results for our coatings' effectiveness against enveloped viruses such as COVID-19. We tested 15 samples at an independent laboratory. We chose to have the ISO21702 testing as this proved the coatings' effectiveness against all enveloped viruses including the whole of the Coronavirus family ensuring that all environments protected with TOUCH Antimicrobial coatings will be protected now and for the future from known and as yet unknown viruses that will come along in the future. As previously stated, other products such as paints and plastics that have silver ion content have already proven to be effective, so while this test iwas purely a formality it did prove the effectiveness.
Two Levels of Graffiti protection
Because TOUCH Antimicrobial coatings are a film coating, they entirely seal the surface they are protecting resisting ingress of paints and dyes. There are two forms of graffiti, water based such as leather dyes/paints and solvent based such as cellulose paint, permanent type markers.
TOUCH Antimicrobial coatings can be maintained indefinitely due to its unique self-annealing and self-levelling qualities. So, if the coating is damaged by external force it can be fully and invisibly repaired at any point during its lifetime without the need to remove the entire application allowing small areas to be repaired if needed. Our coating has more than 3 times out-lived the original guarantee period in real-life applications in all environments both internally and externally around the world. We provide a 2 year application guarantee and 5 year manufacturer's guarantee when applied by trained technicians providing total peace of mind.

TOUCH Antimicrobial coatings provide high levels of additional protection and is guaranteed not to crack, peel or discolour remaining flexible for its lifetime, coping with the expansion and contractions of the surface it is protecting. TOUCH Antimicrobial coatings are resistant to acids, bleaches, salt air, acid rain and bird droppings. Due to high levels of antioxidants contained within the coating it will inhibit oxidisation / rusting of the surface it is protecting. The UV protection within the coating will also protect the treated surface from UV fade for the lifetime of the product. Porous surfaces such as brushed and anodised finishes will also become fingerprint free. No more unsightly stains and fingerprints on treated surfaces gives the end user more confidence of the protection.

Although thin, the coating has some impressive stats such as a hardness/scratch resistance of H7 to H8 on the HB pencil scale where granite is H6 and powder coating is only H4.

Other products on the market comparison
We are often compared to other products that have appeared on the market since the break of COVID-19.
The main difference is that TOUCH Antimicrobial coatings are a film coating which seal and provide 100% protection of a treated surface.
I have listed two of the main types below and given my opinion and experience of them.
Nano type products
These products are probably the most common on the market with some bold and questionable claims such as providing protection for 6 month or more. By the very nature of these products the durability in a real time situation is questionable as for the most part the Nano sized very sticky particles are suspended in a solvent / alcohol solution. They are wiped onto a surface and the solvent evaporates /flashes off leaving the particles to stick to the surface. As these particles are sticky, they also stick to anything that touched them including hands and clothing quickly leaving the surface unprotected. In our tests on door handles there was little left after just a few hours.
My other concerns are regarding the silver ions as they are not UV stable and when exposed to UV light their effectiveness diminishes, unlike TOUCH Antimicrobial coatings Nano type coatings offer no protection from UV light as they are not a film. Also, I am concern about the environmental impact of the silver ions being released when touched or simply drop off over time, again unlike TOUCH Antimicrobial coatings Nano coatings offer no way of encapsulating the silver ions thus preventing leaching. Silver ions are considered a biocide and should be treated with caution and It is worth noting that in Germany BUND criticized the product, claiming that considerable amounts of silver could enter sewage plants and seriously trouble the biological purification process of wastewater. Friends of the Earth has also claimed that silver nanoparticles have a toxic effect on different kinds of living cells.
Long-lasting 30-day disinfectants
These products are usually offered as a fogging or bomb process which means that they are atomised or put into the air via fogging equipment and allowed to fall onto surfaces. Firstly, this is not a perfectly accurate form of application as there are no guarantees that all aspects of all surfaces are treated such as undersides nooks and crannies where bacteria and virus like to hide and breed. This also applies to any form of product applied in this fashion. I have no doubt that these products will remain active for a period in a laboratory test where they are untouched however in a real-life test, they wipe off with general use very quickly and off little or no durability. These products are designed to clean down surfaces and would offer some level of protection on textiles.
